Welcome to our journey through 5th grade!
On August 26th, we embark upon a journey of knowledge. Throughout this year, our imaginations will take us across the United States discovering this nation’s history. As mathematicians, we will multiply and divide, problem solve, and uncover the mystery of fractions. Our scientific eyes will examine life and environmental sciences, chemistry, and physics. We will use the engineering design process and STEM practices to increase critical thinking skills. As the school year progresses, our writing styles will reveal themselves within informational, narrative, and opinion essays. Lastly (but certainly not least important), books will catapult us into worlds we have never witnessed, and this will unleash a fury of discussion in our classroom. There is no telling where else our minds will take us on this fifth grade adventure!
Broad Ford 5th is On Point!
5th grade uses flexible seating. This allows students to choose a workspace that fits their individual needs. There is significant research that indicates flexible seating increases student motivation, engagement, and achievement. We are excited to see the impact of flexible seating on our students’ learning!
We also departmentalize. The 5th grade teachers will work as a team to cover all content areas. Ms. Craver and Mrs. Warnick will be teaching informational reading and writing through science and social studies. Ms. Barnhouse will be teaching literary reading and writing. Mrs. Warnick, Dr. Wilburn, and Mr. Ack will be teaching math this year. This allows your child to have teachers that are teaching to their strengths.
